Lou has shared with us her top five wedding styling and floral tips below – enjoy!
Tip One: Be Flexible with Florals
Needing to stick to a flower budget? Be flexible with your flower choices! Letting your florist have some creative flexibility will help stick to your budget. Ask them for options at different price points for your bouquets, ceremony flowers, table florals – that way you can ‘pick and mix’ your flower options and still fit the style/colour you want. Using ‘in season’ flowers and fresh or dried foliage to ‘fill’ your florals will help too – a ceremony floral with just white roses and white babies breath is going to cost ‘ALOT’ but if you are more flexible using filler flowers, such as white dahlias and white limonium, will bring your cost down and give a similar effect.
Tip Two: Repurpose Your Ceremony Flowers
We recommend reusing your ceremony florals in your reception. Ceremony florals can be expensive for such a short amount of time they are used for – ground florals can be placed along the front floor of your bridal table, vertical pillar florals and wine barrel arrangements can be used to frame the head table or entrance way etc. If you want to do this, ask your florist to suggest options – just keep in mind that flowers can wilt on hot ceremony days and so using them say as your head table centerpiece maybe risky. When we are providing a full styled wedding we will not only bring your florals back from your ceremony to the reception and set them up again, but we will also sort out and replace any wilted flowers where needed. One less worry for you on your day.
Tip Three: Consider Your Table Space
Deciding early on how your meal will be served is important to deciding what kind of centerpieces you can have. If you’re having a shared platter/family style reception meal there is no way a bulky foliage garland will work – there will be no space for your platters, plates, glassware etc. Its best to talk to your caterer to work out how much room they need on the tables before booking centrepieces and florals that won’t let it all fit.
Tip Four: Be Consistent with Your Colour Palette
You can incorporate your colour palette into your reception in more ways than just the flowers. Napkins, table runners, stationary, candles and tablecloths are all easy and effective ways to do this. You don’t have to have all of those pieces all in your colours, but choosing 2 or 3 of them to compliment the overall look is a perfect mix.
Tip Five: Book a Wedding Stylist
If you are a busy person, time poor, lack creativity or have a mish mash of ideas – book a stylist – they will do it all for you. They will take your ideas, wants, colours etc and create a look for your day that’s cohesive from the ceremony, to the florals through to the reception tables and even right down to the colour of your confetti! Not only will they bring the ideas together into a visual styling boards – they will book everything they require to fulfil the design, set it all up for you the day before your wedding and be there on the day to bring the finishing touches together with all the vendors. Not only does it save you so much time during the planning phase, it also lets you enjoy the lead up to the wedding. So while you’re sipping cocktails the day before your wedding – your stylist and their team are doing all the hard work for you.
